CERAMIC

STUDIO &

GALLERY

The Ceramic Studio and Gallery design concept focused on the Buddhist principle of ohm, which is the artist's signature stamp on his pottery as well as a symbol of his personal belief system. The layout of the structures also took into consideration the artist's process as well as the surrounding landscape. The design was done in collaboration with Leslee Randolph. The building is a one story, 640 square foot gallery and work space with an adjacent 250 square foot kiln shed. The studio is wood framed construction over a pier and beam foundation to mitigate the heavy water flow on the sloped site. The exterior of the building features board and batten siding using a sealing process that mimics the Japanese shou-sugi-ban technique of scorching and oiling the wood.
